I am hoping you can help me out with a consumer real estate question. I just launched a consumer real estate social platform and in that platform is an extensive conversations board. A consumer came online and asked a question about a single family homes vs condos and i am trying to find an agent to help her out. She lives in Brockton, MA.
Here is her question:
Will a single family home be easier to sell in a few years than a condo due to the influx of condos being built on the market?
It seems as though more and more condos are being built in the Massachusetts area, apartments are being converted into condos and old buildings are being refurbished and renovated into condos as well. The condo prices vary from location to location and for the most part they are more in my price range than most one family homes. I am afraid my crystal ball is a little fuzzy but if we look at past history we can expect that condo pricing will move pretty much in synch with single family pricing. So, if houses increase in value, so will condos. Condos are often a lower cost option of home ownership. Many homebuyers start with a condo, but don’t lose sight of the fact that there is a luxury, retirement, and resort market for condos as well. Condos also offer a different lifestyle for consumers. Someone else mows the grass, paints the trim, shovels the walk and fixes the roof - the homeowners association. Shared responsiblity and shared expense. Please remember that any investment in real estate is expected to be a long term investment. Real estate is not a liquid investment. You can’t plan on just pulling your investment out any time you want like you can in a savings bank. But over a longer term the benefits of home ownership have been among the best investment opportunities in the world.
